Training and Supervision

The Routines-Based Model method for training and supervision of the home- and classroom-based practices hinges on the use of performance checklists. Supervisors and coaches use a reflective process with the checklists to ensure trainees are clear about the expectations, are judged on their observed performance, and have opportunities to see their progress towards mastery. We have conducted research on effective checklist-based training to show that implementation of support-based home visiting, incidental teaching, and the zone defense schedule can be improved with this method. We have many established checklists and have conducted item-level research on the psychometric properties of the RBI Implementation Checklist, which is used around the world and in the RBI Certification Institute. Guidance is also provided to supervisors, trainers, and coaches on how to develop effective checklists.
